I decided last night on my way home from my little cousin’s birthday party that I was tired of playing the freeway game of speeding and tailgating, so I picked an exit and drove East. It was an excellent decision. Gone were the worries of left lane entitlement syndrome victims and dousing off due to the monotony of the Illinois / Wisconsin highway system. It’s really nice to be able to drive along miles of roads without another car in sight, and actually once into Wisconsin – the roads are even prettier and even more interesting than Illinois’ back roads (not that that’s saying a lot). I took this picture about 7:30 or so an hour away from home. It’s not much, but it definitely depicts the simple beauty of the American country side that’s so often neglected. +1 road trips.

p.s. Today feels a bit like the last day of summer vacation. I’ve had an easy schedule for the last 4 or 5 months, and now I’m back to the 9-5 or 8-4… or whatever it ends up being. Never-the-less, excited, nervous, and relieved that I will be able to afford living and perhaps even some amenities… Beer, a social life, perhaps a girlfriend?
Wish me luck.
Metal concerts are always an interesting event. If I had a first choice of music to go see I don’t know if it would be heavy metal, but the concerts are never short of intensity. The lead singer for killswitch engage had and injury, so the lead singer for the band all that remains (phil labonte) filled in. It was an interesting combination – apparently years ago killswitch was looking for a new lead singer and at that time phil was beaten out by the band’s current lead singer, howard jones. Phil definitely cranked it up to eleven – he screams really well. I’m not a huge fan of all that remains with phil as the singer, but I do not regret being part of this unique show. On a side note it was uplifting to be at a proper concert with 1000 cubic miles of cigarette smoke. I’ve been so used to illinois’ ban on smoking.
we ended up taking out the engine and stripping the frame prior to actually firing the motor – which, after consideration from those in the know – we thought would actually be a good thing to do. what that means now is that we are going to rewire the engine, clean up the nitty gritty, reattach the exhaust with the working clamps, mount the air filters and carbs, and somehow put all this into a 2×4 frame so it doesn’t run away when we give it gas. mark gets to wire it up since he is responsible for cutting the wires. hindsight is 20/20 i suppose….
looking forward to actually riding this mess in the spring.
what is it they say about spending a certain amount of time at your destination versus the time you spend driving? nonsense… 5 hours of driving for a 2 hour event. It wasn’t that bad, because I actually like driving…
